Large Web Site Build

Foglight eDocs Documentation Web Site Award-winning web site that provides a large quantity of product documentation to customers. See Information Architecture Project for the design and project management part of the effort. Foglight eDocs was built with standard, freely available web technologies and does not require a database or content management system. Navigation pages group the content by product and release. Landing pages present the available content using jQuery UI accordion components. Navigation and landing pages are built and updated manually, with the user guides generated using a tool called WebWorks ePublisher. I built tools and scripting to automate as much of the regeneration and updating of the site content as possible. Tools and Technologies Used: Apache and IIS HTTP servers, HTML, PHP, JavaScript, Blueprint CSS jQuery, jQuery UI, XSLT Google Site Search, Google Mini Notepad++, Microsoft Expression Studio Subversion SVN, Adobe FrameMaker, Quadralay WebWorks ePublisher, Jenkis continuous integration, FileZilla FTP View...

Programming Guide

XRT/table Programmer’s Guide & Reference Manual I designed, wrote, and revised this manual for a “GUI component” software product intended for X Windows Motif developers using the C programming language. The product was provided as a physical boxed product and downloadable, and was available for evaluation before purchase, which made the documentation a key part of the purchasing decision. The “XRT” line of GUI component products became the leading tools of their type in their market. Tools Used: FrameMaker, PaintShop Pro, IXgen, Hummingbird X Windows client View...
Software Getting Started Guide

Software Getting Started Guide

Olectra Chart 5.0 Getting Started Guide I designed and wrote this engaging booklet for a commercial software product for Windows programmers. It was intended both for new users evaluating the product and customers upgrading to the new version. The product had been growing more complex and we had some feedback that users needed something to help them understand the big picture of how the product worked, and how you would get started using it in different situations. The guide provides quick info on installation, an overview of the product, new features, and where to go from here. I believed that the more engaging I could make the content (by style of writing, use of graphics and design), the more effective it would be in achieving these goals. The piece was successful, influencing increased sales and better reviews. The product itself was quite successful in its market, and was eventually sold to another software company when we exited that business. Tools Used: FrameMaker, PaintShop Pro View...
